It’s a little known fact that Stanley Kubrick had a lifelong fascination with Napoleon, and attempted several times to turn his life into a movie. He once explained to a colleague: “it’s impossible to tell you what I’m going to do except to say that I expect to make the best movie ever made.”
The movie was obviously never made, but he got as far as writing a complete screenplay, which is an amazing read.
